Food is not rational. Food is culture, habit, craving and identity.
—Jonathan Safran Foer
I’ve been fascinated by food for as long as I can remember. Not just eating the stuff but holding it, smelling it, talking about it, experimenting with it and hopefully transforming it into something extraordinary.
I love that there’s a rich backstory behind even the most basic ingredient. I’m in awe of all those who have a hand in the story—our ancestors who experimented with strange new ingredients, the farmers who grow our ingredients, food purveyors who know every detail of their products and the chefs, street hawkers and bakers who transform simple ingredients into complex and delicious dishes.
Through Fascinated by Food I’m documenting my food adventures with behind-the-scenes photos and interviews with the cast of characters who bring us our food. I’m also sharing recipes that will help you bring a world of different food experiences to your own kitchen.
Finally! Chatting with complete strangers, tracking down obscure ingredients, taking close-up photos of my food and driving my wife mad with my messy kitchen all have a glorious justification!
If I can take a few of you along for the ride and learn from your experiences, all the better!
